Hughes strikes as Magpies march on
The prolific striker scored moments after half time, as he claimed to have applied the finishing touch to Ben Davies' curling free-kick to make the score 2-0.[LNB]It was Davies who opened the scoring on 44 minutes, when he picked up a rebound and bent a superb effort over Tony Roberts and into the top corner.[LNB]After the break, Roberts was at his best to deny Davies' fierce volley, while the hosts should have halved the deficit but striker Paul Benson put his header straight at the keeper.[LNB]Hughes continued to show his quality, sending a volley straight into the hands of Roberts.[LNB]The points were wrapped up after 83 minutes when a lovely crossfield move saw Ade Akinbiyi set up Karl Hawley and the striker scuffed a volley that deflected off Abu Ogogo and beat the wrong-footed Roberts.[LNB][LNB]
