Hughes steals the show for County

John Still's men had surged to the top of League Two with back-to-back five-goal victories but big-spending County proved too strong for them. Hughes had already threatened on two occasions before his close range header from an exquisite free-kick by Ben Davies broke the deadlock after 43 minutes. Two minutes later Karl Hawley doubled the lead, converting a low cross from Hughes for his first goal since signing from Preston. It took Dagenham an hour to force former Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to make his first save in his debut - a comfortable catch from Solomon Taiwo's long-range effort. County sealed victory after 64 minutes when Hughes fed Johnnie Jackson who controlled the ball neatly on his chest before beating the advancing Tony Roberts.
