Daggers edge eight-goal thriller

15 August 2009 18:15
Dagenham had been leading 1-0 at half time, courtesy of Peter Gain's fine volley, but it was after the break that they really turned up the tempo. Winger Danny Green was the main architect, drilling a low shot past Scott Bevan from 25 yards after 55 minutes, and then scoring the third seconds later when he cut in from the wing and shot high into the net. Torquay were shell-shocked, but pulled one back via the penalty spot after 62 minutes. Nicky Wroe slotted home after Mark Arber was adjudged to have fouled Elliot Benyon. The goals kept coming and the Daggers went 4-1 up four minutes later when Josh Scott produced an outrageous backheel to Green's corner that beat Bevan at his near post. The Gulls netted again late on as Benyon took advantage of some poor defending, before Mustapha Carayol belted a shot into the net from 40 yards, but Wes Thomas hit Daggers fifth on the stroke of full-time to finish a stunning game.
