The youngster, who can also play at left-back, has been training with the League Two side since Christmas, having been released by Crystal Palace.

And he has done enough to earn a permanent deal with the Daggers until the summer of 2010 - and manager John Still is planning to send him out on loan in order to gain more experience.

"Billy has done quite well, so we are going to have a look at him for a year as we've done with a few of our young players," Still told the Ilford Recorder.

"It's not good to just train all the time and although they play our reserve matches, first team football is better."
