Doyle downs Daggers

Eoin Doyle's goal kept Chesterfield in the hunt for the League Two title as the Spireites won 1-0 at Dagenham.

Doyle struck after 28 minutes and it was enough for a vital three points which sees Paul Cook's second-placed team maintain the pressure on leaders Scunthorpe, who top the table by two points with two matches remaining.

After a bright opening period from both sides, it was the visitors who took the lead. The industrious Tendayi Darikwa fired the ball across the six-yard box and, after a deflection, Doyle made no mistake from close range.

Marc Richards should have doubled the lead early in the second half but his turn and shot from 12 yards just flashed past the far post, with Dagenham goalkeeper Jordan Seabright rooted to the spot.

Luke Norris should have equalised but inexplicably headed a superb cross from second-half substitute Sean Shields wide when unmarked, before Daniel Kearns saw a powerful shot palmed away by Seasbright at the other end.

Richards saw a dipping volley fly just over the crossbar late on but Chesterfield had done enough to earn the victory.
