Czechs keen to avoid lottery

Czech Republic coach Karel Bruckner is hoping to avoid the lottery of penalties and secure qualification for the last eight with victory over Turkey.

The Czechs take on Turkey in a winner takes all final Group A showdown on Sunday in Geneva with both teams fighting for the one remaining qualifying spot behind group winners Portugal.

However with the sides level on points and also goal difference, a draw would necessitate a group stage penalty competition for the first time in history of the European Championship.

Speaking after his side's 3-1 defeat to Portugal, Brucker said: "We know there is an alternative to going to penalties, even though we are going to practice them.

"We have to focus on the game, give a quality display like we did in the first half yesterday and try to decide the issue in the first 90 minutes.

"We're going to analyse both matches against Switzerland and Portugal.

"We can take the good things from yesterday's match, particularly in the first half and we have to try and improve our defending in specific situations."
