APOEL make Champions League history

APOEL Nicosia became the first Cypriot club to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League on Wednesday when they drew 0-0 with Zenit St Petersburg in Russia.

APOEL - formed in a sweet shop 85 years ago - have nine points after five games and lead Zenit by a point and Portuguese champions Porto, who play Shakhtar Donetsk later on Wednesday and can close the gap between them and the Cypriot outfit to two points.

However, even were APOEL to lose their final match to Shakhtar in a fortnight only one of Zenit or Porto can overtake them as they face each other.
