CSKA Moscow boosted their line-up ahead of the Champions League last 16 showdown with Spanish giants Real Madrid by signing Swedish international midfielder Pontus Wernbloom from Dutch league leaders AZ Alkmaar.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has won 20 caps with Sweden's national side and scored two goals, signed a four and a half year deal with Russia's three-time champions. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Wernbloom has already joined CSKA in their training camp at the Spanish resort city of Campoamor, where the Red Army side are preparing for the resumption of the domestic season following the winter break.

"I knew that CSKA are a top-class team," the CSKA official site quoted Wernbloom as saying.

"My first practice with the club has proved that. CSKA have plenty of top-class players in its line-up.

"The atmosphere in the team is very friendly. Joining CSKA is a big step ahead for me. It was a serious decision for me to leave the club, which lead the Dutch league but I didn't think a lot before I accepted CSKA's proposal."
