Warnock thrilled to land Sears
26 Jun 2009 - 14:14:35
Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock is pleased to have persuaded West Ham United striker Freddie Sears to move to Selhurst Park on a season-long loan deal.
The 19-year-old has spent his entire career with the Hammers, coming up through the youth team ranks before making his first-team debut 15 months ago.
He came on for the final 16 minutes of the March 2008 clash with Blackburn Rovers and headed home the winner.
Last season Sears, who has already represented England at Under-19 and 20 level, made 22 Premier League appearances for the club, most of them from the substitute's bench, but failed to find the net again.
Warnock told Palace's official website: "We're thrilled to have him on board as we've been chasing Freddie for some time now.
"Even after he'd agreed to join us he received another couple of decent offers from other clubs but he stayed true to his word and will be joining the lads at Beckenham next Wednesday for our pre-season preparations.
"Freddie's an exciting, hard-working player and I'm sure the fans will take to him very quickly."
