Premier League 2014/15 club preview: Crystal Palace
Who would have thought it? Crystal Palace, flirters with the relegation zone so often that they should have just go it on, ended up securing their league status finishing a respectable 11th place.
It would not be out of order to put this huge turn in fortune down to one man, Tony Pulis. Not every football fans cup of tea, Pulis has steered the rickety old Palace boat with a steady hand and a master plan. Normally a teams fortune rests with a Messi or a Ronaldo, but in Palace’s case Pulis galvanised the team and they started working together with great effect.
To single out players is tough, but Yannick Bolasie’s runs and dribbles must have caught the eye of some ‘larger’ clubs and the ever reliable Mile Jedinak proved that you don’t have to be the best player in a team to have the required effect.
Steven Caulker, Frazier Campbell, Jordon Mutch, Marc Buckley
Well…to succeed in that ‘difficult second season’, with all due respect is going to take a few good signings coupled with a continuation of the desire shown at the tail end of the last. To pick a player is hard, but a forward is definitely needed as Dwight Gayle is good in fits and starts and lacks that cutting edge experience. With really only Murray and Dobbie as backup, Frazier Campbell, if swayed to the Capital again, would give them a pacey spark….and maybe the odd goal?
