Darryl Flahavan has ended his eight-year association with Southend United by signing a three-year deal with Crystal Palace.
However, the 29-year-old is not expecting to walk straight in to the Eagles first team and knows he has battle on his hand to displace Julian Speroni.
He told the Eagles' official website: "Julian had a terrific season last year and I'm under no illusions.
"I've come here to compete with him and try my best but I know it's going to be tough for me. I'm here to give it a good go.
"I think competition is healthy in a squad. I had it for eight years at Southend and I always enjoyed it like, I think, Julian will so I'm looking forward to working with him."
