McCarthy needs shoulder op

Crystal Palace defender Patrick McCarthy has been told he requires surgery on a shoulder problem which will keep him sidelined for three months.

The centre-half suffered a dislocated shoulder against Doncaster Rovers last Saturday, but is hoping to postpone surgery until the end of the campaign.

"Paddy's not going to have an operation yet and we're going to wait two weeks and see what the situation is," revealed manager Neil Warnock.

"But the surgeon has told him that when he feels pain-free he can join in again.

"He'll have to have the operation at some stage. Whether it will be in three weeks or in May we don't know.

"But it will be a big operation and he'll be out for over three months."
