League rule out Ashton Gate replay

The Eagles are still fuming after seeing a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out against the Robins on Saturday. Freddie Sears hooked a clever effort away from City keeper Dean Gerken and into the corner of the net, where it cannoned back into play off the goal stanchion. The match officials, unsure as to where the ball had gone, proceeded to award a goal kick, much to Palace and manager Neil Warnock's despair. Feeling hard done to, especially after City snatched a late winner, the men from Selhurst Park had been hoping to get the game replayed. However, the Football League has made it clear that they will not be agreeing to such a request. "The Football League cannot sanction the replaying of this fixture," read a statement on the Football League's official website. "In any match the referee's decision must be final, even in a case such as this where there has been an error of judgement. To do otherwise would be contrary to the laws of the game. "With regard to the use of goalline technology, the League has been saying for some considerable time that we would be happy to trial a prototype system in its competitions. "However, until the law-making bodies of the world sanction the use of any such system this cannot happen."
