New manager Paul Hart believes his struggles at former club Portsmouth will serve him well as he attempts to keep Crystal Palace in the Championship.

Hart was handed the reins at Selhurst Park on Tuesday with the cash-strapped club languishing down in 21st place in the table.

The Eagles are also in administration but Hart is confident that the experience he gained while at the helm of another crisis-torn club will prove invaluable.

Hart left Portsmouth in November after battling serious financial problems to keep the south coast club in the Premier League last season.

"There are many similarities to Portsmouth," he explained. "There are 14 games left, there's an experienced squad who can play and I feel with a few tweaks we can get there.

"I think it's quite obvious I like a challenge and this is a big one, but I felt that the support would be there.

"This club deserves to be in this division, there's been a lot thrown at it in the last six months and the players don't deserve to go down."
