Crystal Palace have completed a second signing in a matter of hours, snapping up Southampton centre-back Fitz Hall for £1.5million.

The Eagles had earlier snapped up Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly, with boss Iain Dowie keen to bolster his squad ahead of the first game of the season against Norwich City.

Twenty-three-year-old Hall had previously played under Dowie at Oldham Athletic and was keen to work with his former manager again.

Dowie told the club's official website: "I've worked with Fitz at Oldham and I'm delighted to add him to the squad.

"Fitz can play at the back or in midfield and I know he will be a top-class player for Crystal Palace Football Club for many years to come."

Hall moved to St Mary's in the summer of 2003, but made only 12 first-team appearances for the club, having made his name during the Latics' run to the Division Two play-offs in 2002-03.
