Eagles snap up Stokes on loan

Sunderland striker Anthony Stokes has joined Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old Republic of Ireland international moved to Wearside from Arsenal in a £2million deal in January 2007 after impressing during a loan spell with Falkirk where he found the net 16 times in only 18 games.

However, he has been less successful with the Black Cats, starting only 16 matches in more than two years at the Stadium of Light, with the last coming against Everton almost 12 months ago.

He was sent out on loan to Sheffield United in October, but failed to score in 12 appearances for the Blades.
