Eagles lose injured McCarthy

Crystal Palace have been rocked by confirmation that defender Patrick McCarthy will be sidelined for three months following shoulder surgery. McCarthy dislocated the shoulder last season and has been told he must go under the knife in order to make a full recovery. "It's a disappointment but he had to have it done," commented Eagles boss Neil Warnock. Warnock is now hoping that his current centre-back pairing of Claude Davis and Jose Fonte can stay fit during McCarthy's prolonged lay-off. He added: "We have got to wrap Claude Davis and Jose Fonte in cotton wool now."
