Eagles aim to keep Freedman

Crystal Palace boss Peter Taylor has urged Dougie Freedman to be patient in his bid to earn a new contract at Selhurst Park.

Freedman, 32, is out of contract in the summer, but Taylor has revealed he wants to keep the experienced striker at the club next season.

"We have not spoken about terms yet, but I have spoken to Dougie about the football side. I would like him to stay," confirmed Taylor.

"When we know which division we will be in - and it seems as though it will be the Championship - the next step is to talk to (chairman) Simon Jordan about the budget available.

"Dougie is a good professional. He gives advice to the younger players and he is a good model for them."

Freedman has been with the Eagles since 2000 and has made over 200 appearances for the south London club.
