Eagle McCarthy set for surgery
01 Jan 2009 - 11:02:15
Crystal Palace defender Patrick McCarthy is set for a spell on the sidelines as he requires surgery to correct a shoulder problem.
The 25-year-old centre-back has dislocated a shoulder twice already this season, but had hoped to be able to postpone the need for an operation until next summer.
However, Eagles boss Neil Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser: "I don't think Paddy will play against Leicester this weekend and he might have his operation next week."
Warnock had previously been more upbeat, saying: "We will see how he gets on this week.
"We may well play him in the FA Cup against Leicester and see how things go.
"He will possibly have the operation sooner than we would like, but if that is the case I will speak to the chairman about getting a replacement in."
