Crystal Palace and West Brom, another relegation fight

Both Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion have risen and fallen, in and out of the Premier League since its creation. The Eagles don’t have too much good history behind them when it comes to relegation scraps, as they haven’t survived a single season when they’ve been promoted. Whereas the Baggies have been more successful, most memorable the end of the 2004-05 season when they were the first team to survive after being the bottom of the table at the start of the day to being a Premier League club for another season at the end of the day.

After Crystal Palace’s magnificent effort against Chelsea last week end, if they can keep those sorts of performances going then they have a very strong chance of surviving. Even though they have extremely tough games to come, with title contenders, teams with Champions League ambition and fellow strugglers. Tony Pulis has implemented a similar philosophy, to that he did at Stoke where the defence is everything and from a solid back four and a lot of grit and determination they can stay and be able to continue as a Premier League club.

West Brom is one of the teams that look the weakest, out of the teams above the relegation zone, they changed manager twice and the team has struggled with consistency. The next game against Norwich will show where they stand in the relegation battle and if they can get a result, they might have a chance but with the teams around them starting to get results, change is needed, quickly if they are to survive.

Both teams have changed managers, both have history in the Premier League and fighting relegation. One team has a proven manager in the top flight, the other an unknown. Down on paper West Brom look like they have a slim chance of survival, but stranger things have happened. Both teams will need to stay sharp and I’m sure the battle will go on until that final game of the season.
