Ban ends Davis' campaign

Crystal Palace defender Claude Davis has been handed a three-match suspension by the Football Association after being charged with violent conduct.

Davis caught Cardiff City's Roger Johnson with a flying elbow last Saturday at Selhurst Park, leaving the Bluebirds defender struggling to breathe and in need of urgent medical attention.

The match referee took no action at the time, but Davis has now been banned after video footage of the incident was reviewed.

Eagles boss Neil Warnock had claimed: "I don't think Claude will get done for that. Claude didn't elbow him. If anything, he ran into his arm.

"There was no arm movement to face at all, but he catches him and the lad goes down, there was nothing willful in it for me."

However, he added after hearing the verdict: "There are just no comparisons between some of the challenges I've seen that haven't been punished. That's Claude done for the season now."
