Warnock salutes spirit of Eagles

A late goal from Neil Danns helped the Eagles to a 2-1 win at Glanford Park after Darren Ambrose had given them the lead and David Mirfin had equalised for the hosts.[LNB]"This business has drawn us all closer together, both players and supporters," declared Warnock.[LNB]"These players just do not know when they are beaten.[LNB]"This was our third tough match within the space of a week.[LNB]"Scunthorpe is always a difficult place to come and you have to approach it with the same sort of attitude that you would a game at Newcastle."[LNB]But Warnock was quick to admit that it had taken his side time to settle at Glanford Park.[LNB]"Scunthorpe are a team that always give everything they have and to be fair I thought they were the better side in the first half," he continued.[LNB]"We did not deal with their direct approach very well.[LNB]"It was like I used to say when I was a manager up north, we looked like southern softies.[LNB]"But in the second half I told my players that now they had found their legs, this was a game we could go on and win. I thought we had that extra bit of quality.[LNB]"Our opening goal from Darren Ambrose was a terrific finish. Only he could have scored that.[LNB]"It was disappointing that we let Scunthorpe come back on level terms after going down to 10 men but Neil Danns has come up with a last-gasp winner and it's a terrific result for us."[LNB]Scunthorpe were left to rue a series of missed chances in the early stages.[LNB]Donal McDermott, Grant McCann and Cliff Byrne were all guilty of bad misses in front of goal with Palace looking on the ropes.[LNB]After the home side had been reduced to 10 men when full-back Marcus Williams was red-carded with them 1-0 down, a first-ever league goal for the club by centre-back Mirfin looked to have salvaged the home side a point when he thundered home a header from a corner.[LNB]But three minutes into stoppage time Danns struck with a dramatic winner.[LNB]Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins admitted his side will be considering an appeal over Williams' red card, believing it had cost them victory.[LNB]"It was disappointing to have a player sent off and we shall be looking to see if we can appeal," he said.[LNB]"This is only the third game in 11 that we have been beaten and each time it has come after we have suffered from red cards.[LNB]"Having said that, we had chances early in the game that we should have taken.[LNB]"It should have been beyond reach for Palace by half-time.[LNB]"I warned my players they had to be aware of the threats from Palace at set-pieces and it was disappointing their first goal came from a corner.[LNB]"Overall, I was pleased with our performance but it is a result like this that just reminds us how difficult it is to get points at Championship level."[LNB][LNB]
