Crystal Palace have confirmed the appointment of former player Tony Popovic as first-team coach. Boss Dougie Freedman has persuaded the ex-Eagles defender to leave his role as assistant manager at Sydney FC and return to south London, where he was a big fans' favourite between 2001 and 2006. "It's nice to be back," Popovic told the club's official website. "I know how Dougie thinks and how he sees the game, he knows Crystal Palace inside out." Freedman added: "He is a good guy and he thinks the same of me in terms of what we can achieve at this club."
