Crystal Palace wasted a chance to put pressure on Championship leaders Cardiff as Blackpool snatched a 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday to frustrate their former manager Ian Holloway.
Holloway's second placed side had recovered from Nathan Delfouneso's first-half opener to take the lead through second-half goals from Owen Garvan and Glenn Murray and were just moments away from moving within one point of Cardiff, who thrashed Blackburn 4-1 on Friday.
But Blackpool substitute Nouha Dicko struck in the 89th minute to leave Holloway cursing the team he quit to take over at Palace last month.
Middlesbrough are now just three points behind Palace in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League after winning 3-2 at bottom of the table Peterborough.
Faris Haroun put Middlesbrough ahead after nine minutes with a cool finish and then headed home the second 11 minutes later.
Peterborough hit back through on-loan striker Dwight Gayle either side of half-time to turn the game on its head.
But Ishmael Miller's speculative 76th minute effort surprised Posh stopper Robert Olejnik and extended Peterborough's winless run to eight games.
Fourth placed Hull maintained their impressive away form with a 2-1 win at Watford thanks to goals from David Meyler and Robbie Brady.
The Tigers made it three successive wins on the road, and their sixth victory in their last nine league matches, with a goal just before half-time from on-loan Sunderland midfielder Meyler and Brady's free-kick midway through the second half.
Gianfranco Zola's Watford, unbeaten in their previous seven matches, replied with a stoppage-time strike from Troy Deeney.
Leicester dropped to fifth after being forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against struggling Barnsley, while Millwall, beaten 3-0 at Ipswich, missed a chance to move into the top six after their first defeat in 14 matches.
At the other end of the table, Bristol City escaped with a dramatic 3-2 win over relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Wednesday, who started the day alongside City in the bottom three, made the perfect start thanks to Miguel Llera's third-minute goal.
Sam Baldock levelled for City with an 18th minute penalty, but Dave Jones' side looked on course to end a run of six successive defeats when Gary Madine struck in the 79th minute.
However, City equalised through another Baldock penalty in the 86th minute and then took the lead with two minutes remaining through Albert Adomah's free-kick.
The drama wasn't finished there as Wednesday thought they had equalised in stoppage-time when Madine fired home, only for referee Andre Mariner to rule out the goal for a foul.
Elsewhere, Derby beat Leeds 3-1 - ending a run of three successive victories for the former Premier League giants - and Nottingham Forest defeated Burnley 2-0.
Charlton drew 2-2 with Brighton and Huddersfield were held to a 2-2 draw by Bolton.
