Gills victory proves to be costly

Jack Payne snuck in to convert Andy Barcham's cross midway through the second half to give the Gills the win, but they will have a concern over midfielder Kevin Maher, who hobbled out of the clash with just 13 minutes gone.[LNB]He suffered an ankle injury following a 50/50 challenge with Alessane N'Diaye after just four minutes and, although he tried to continue, he was forced to come off.[LNB]Manager Mark Stimson has already lost key centre-back Simon King, midfielder Stuart Lewis and forward Dennis Oli to injuries during the friendly campaign, although midfielder Adam Miller was able to return after a foot injury to face Palace.[LNB]N'Diaye had Palace's best chances but was first denied by Alan Julian before firing over the top, while Miller hit the crossbar and Mark Bentley hit a post for the Gills either side of Payne's strike.[LNB][LNB]
