Eagles urge Eire to rest Scannell

The Eagles striker has been named in Sean McCaffrey's squad for the UEFA Under-19 Championship qualifying matches against Belgium, Switzerland and Sweden, which take place between June 5 and 10. That is despite the 18-year-old having only recently recovered from the hernia operation that ruled him out of the final two months of the season. Scannell has not played a competitive game since the beginning of March and Palace manager Neil Warnock fears that too much football now could cause his player injury. "Sean has not done any football - condition-wise or game-wise - for a long time and while his hernia is mended, our physio department think there is a risk he could injure something else," Warnock told the South London Press. "You wouldn't put a footballer without any football into this situation and we have asked them to send him home. "We are big allies of the Republic but it is ridiculous if they think about playing him at the moment. They have three matches in the space of a week and we have made our views clear so we will now have to see what happens."
