Burley Stern with John
Crystal Palace manager George Burley has confirmed that veteran striker Stern John will not be playing for the club next season.
Burley had been hoping to open discussions with the Trinidad and Tobago forward, whose contract expired at the end of June, but has been unable to contact him.
The former Scotland boss has now ruled out any possibility of 33-year-old John, who played under him during his Southampton days, returning to Selhurst Park next season.
He told the Croydon Advertiser: "I know Stern quite well as I took him to Southampton with me and I wanted to talk to him and see what his plans were.
"But I haven't been able to get hold of him. I've been told that he is in the Caribbean somewhere but that's all we know.
"So I think we will move on from that one now. He won't be playing here next season."
