Woodards reveals reasons for leaving
The 25-year-old defender-cum-midfielder will leave Gresty Road on a free transfer this summer having opted not to discuss a new deal with his current contract set to expire. The Alex were more than keen to keep hold of the former Chelsea player but he is focused on a return back to London, his birthplace. Yet he admits it may not have worked out that way. Woodards told the club's official website: "I enjoyed playing for Crewe and being at the club. The lads were great and there was a great spirit in the dressing room. "Everyone was disappointed not to get out of the bottom four. We did well under the new manager and it looked as though we were going to do it. We did remarkably well to give ourselves a chance, so that made it doubly disappointing when we couldn't quite manage it. "It was a big decision for me to make but I have missed London and living closer to my family. If the new manager had come in earlier and we had managed to escape relegation then it could have been different, but I think I need to move to benefit my own career."
