Walton to be given every chance

Crewe Alexandra's caretaker manager Dario Gradi has no plans to send Simon Walton back to Plymouth Argyle.

The 22-year-old midfielder was brought to Gresty Road on a season-long loan by former boss Gudjon Thordarson but, since the Icelander was axed, Walton has spent most of the time on the substitutes bench.

He made his first start for six weeks in Saturday's FA Cup first round defeat at York City, with Gradi saying: "He's come here on loan in good faith and then the manager who brought him in is no longer in charge.

"He came here to get fit and play games and it must be discouraging for him not to be in Crewe's team.

"But I've been pleased with his attitude. He's fought hard to get back into the team and he's very keen to resurrect his career again.

"I want him on board with us because he's on loan here until the end of the season and we'll need him."
