Crewe Alexandra captain Neil Cox has announced that he will hang up his boots at the end of the season.
The 36-year-old former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender has made almost 550 League appearances during an 18-year professional career.
Cox told Alex's official website: "It's something I've been thinking about for a while and, after talking things over with my family and one or two others, I've known for a while that I'd retire from playing at the end of the season.
"I've kept the decision relatively to myself and I discussed things with Steve (Holland) and all I can do now is concentrate on the last three games and try and help Crewe stay in the division."
