Roberts close to Alex exit

Crewe Alexandra midfielder Gary Roberts is on the verge of leaving the club and signing for a Championship side.

The 21-year-old, who is currently on the Gresty Road transfer-list, did not travel with the rest of the Alex squad for the pre-season trip to Bulgaria and is expected to move to either Blackpool or Cardiff City.

First-team coach Steve Holland confirmed: "There's been interest in Gary without anything being agreed yet.

"The move's got a chance of going through as we put Gary on the list and he's indicated he's keen to move on."

Roberts was twice suspended by the club last season for missing training.
