Pope ponders Alex offer

Under-pressure Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Holland is confident that Tom Pope will sign a new contract with the club shortly.

The 23-year-old, who has found the net five times for rock-bottom Alex so far this term, is currently thinking over the improved deal that is currently on the table.

Holland told the club's official website: "Tom's been more than a useful player for us and we know that, if we can get the ball into his feet in the box, then he can make something happen.

"I think he deserves great credit for that, when you consider where he came from.

"To come from Biddulph Victoria into League One is a massive step up, but he's proved he can do it.

"We've made him a contract offer and we're hoping that he'll sign and commit his future to the club. Tom hasn't been back to me, but he's earned a new deal and we'd be delighted if he signed."
