Pope: Crewe players to blame
20 Nov 2008 - 11:06:36
Crewe Alexandra striker Tom Pope believes the players must take the blame for Steve Holland's removal as the club's first-team coach.
The struggling Railwaymen have handed Dario Gradi temporary control of first-team affairs after asking the former long-term manager to step in from his current role as technical director.
Crewe currently prop up the League One table, having earned just nine points from 16 games this season, and Pope claims he and his team-mates must shoulder the blame.
"I was shocked when I found out and it was strange because he (Holland) took training on Tuesday and everyone was looking forward to the game on Saturday," he told the club's official website.
"I don't really know why things haven't gone well for us under Steve, but I don't think he could have done anything more to try and turn things around.
"The players have certainly not helped him with some of the performances we've put in this season."
