Gary Roberts is a product of the Crewe youth setup, he was captain of the under 19 team and played regularly for the reserves. He has progressed a lot in the last few years at the club and he spent time on loan at non-league clubs Leek Town and Vauxhall Motors. He gained a lot of experience at both clubs and made his Crewe debut against Sunderland in September 2004. He was progressing well and rady to make the step up to the first team when he snapped his Cruciate Ligament in November which ruled him out for the season.He had a sucessful spell on loan at Southport and in January 06, he moved to Chester City on loan.
