In-form Crewe Alexandra striker Nicky Maynard insists he is only interested in helping the club steer clear of the bottom four and is putting all the speculation about his future to the back of his mind.

The 21-year-old has found the net 11 times in his last seven appearances for Alex and grabbed a hat-trick in Saturday's vital 3-1 win against relegation rivals Cheltenham Town.

The former youth team player told the club's official website: "I'm not really bothered about speculation, I'm just concentrating on the next game and hoping to score some more goals for the team.

"As long as I'm still taking my chances and the team are picking up points, that's all that matters to me.

"Of course, Crewe have developed some great players in the past that have gone on to bigger clubs and hopefully one day that will happen to me.

"However, I'm not worrying about that now. I just want to keep on doing well for the team and repay the manager's faith in me."
