Maynard close to a return
31 Oct 2007 - 13:09:25
Crewe Alexandra hope to have star striker Nicky Maynard back in first-team contention in the next few weeks.
The 20-year-old has not featured since breaking his leg on the opening day of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion, having netted 19 goals for the Railwaymen last term.
First-team coach Steve Holland told The Sentinel: "Nicky has healed quickly without any setbacks, but the big test will be when he starts training.
"The bone has healed, but there is always a danger of him picking up secondary injuries to areas such as his hamstrings or groin.
"But we will prepare him physically as best we can. We won't rush him. The plan is he will train with us on Friday for the first time.
"With a bit of luck he will be in a position to get a week's training under his belt after that. We are now talking about his return in terms of weeks rather than months."
