Crewe Alexandra striker Nicky Maynard has been backed to make a full recovery from the broken leg he sustained on the opening day of the new season.
The 20-year-old faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering the injury against Brighton last weekend, but Alex first-team coach Steve Holland is confident that Maynard will be back.
He told The Sentinel: "Your first thoughts are with the player in these situations. I've known Nicky since he was ten and to see him writhing around in agony wasn't a pleasant experience.
"But, on the positive side, the injury isn't as bad as it could have been. It's a clean break, so he'll make a full recovery and we feared it could be worse.
"He's a strong-minded lad and I have no doubts he'll recover from this and be able to carry on improving when he returns.
"It was a very bad start to see the club's best striker injured in the first game."
