Macclesfield 2-2 Crewe: Report
Macc hit back to claim valuable point
Macclesfield remain firmly in relegation danger despite rescuing a point in a 2-2 draw at home to play-off hopefuls Crewe.
Macc survived a few early scares at the hands of the in-form visitors before they took an unlikely lead after 17 minutes, a push by Harry Davis on Ross Draper allowing Lewis Chalmers the chance to edge the hosts ahead from the penalty spot.
Nick Powell levelled for Crewe shortly before half-time, pouncing after Byron Moore's goalbound shot was headed away by Jon Bateson.
Powell dealt another blow to Macc's survival hopes when he struck again just before the hour mark. Receiving a pass from strike partner Ajay Leitch-Smith inside the box, Powell danced beyond two defenders and crashed the ball into the top corner.
After Billy Bodin had seen his shot rebound off the crossbar, former Crewe man Colin Daniel offered Macc some hope of salvation 10 minutes from time when his first time shot gave Steve Phillips no chance.
Although happy to gain some return for their efforts, the point leaves Brian Horton's men three points from safety with three matches remaining while the Alex remain outside the top seven on goal difference.
