Lively Jones impresses Gradi

Crewe manager Dario Gradi was full of praise for his Irish striker Steve Jones after the former Leigh star's second-half brace secured a 2-1 victory at Colchester on Saturday.

The Railwaymen were behind at the break thanks to Mick Stockwell's strike for the U's, but Jones' double ensured that Crewe climbed to second place in the Nationwide Division Two table.

"We had to stick with it today and grind out a result," Gradi told the club's official website.

"We started a bit slack but then we got into the swing and began to play better trying to find that ball in behind the defence.

"Steve has been lively in training all week and then he scored that wonder goal. He is capable of scoring goals like that."
