Giant centre-back Dennis Lawrence has left Wrexham to join League One outfit Swansea City for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.
The 32-year-old Trinidad & Tobago World Cup defender had handed in a transfer request earlier this week.
Red Dragons boss Denis Smith told the club's official website: "Following earlier interest from Swansea, I thought we had settled the matter and he would be staying.
"But following a written transfer request from the player and an increased bid, it was decided that it would be in the best interests of all concerned if he was allowed to leave."
Lawrence himself added: "Obviously I am sorry to leave Wrexham because I've enjoyed my five years at the club. The fans were brilliant to me.
"But at 32 this is a great move for me. It's a big club and a big challenge for me. I'm really looking forward to it."
Lawrence joined Wrexham in February 2001 and went on to make more than 200 first-team appearances for the Racecourse Ground outfit.
