Crewe Alexandra striker Steve Jones has not broken his leg as was initially feared after X-rays revealed he had only suffered severe bruising.
The former Leigh RMI forward was stretchered off during the ill-tempered defeat to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday amid fears he had suffered a break.
But after spending several hours in hospital, Jones was released after it was confirmed that no bones had been broken.
"Thankfully I'm OK," he told the club's official website.
"I had some routine tests at the hospital but have been released with no broken bones and just heavy bruising.
"I was really worried immediately after the tackle because I couldn't feel my ankle. It just went numb and obviously you can't carry on in that state.
"It's a real relief. This morning I can walk OK and I've come into the training ground to get my ankle iced up."
