Crewe first-team coach Steve Holland has challenged his players to take their cup form into the league after Tuesday's 2-1 Carling Cup defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
The Railwaymen are struggling towards the foot of the League One table but raised their game for the trip to Anfield, in which they pushed the top-flight side all the way.
"I think it was an indication of how well our players performed that they brought on the likes of Fernando Torres and Robbie Keane," Holland told the club's official website.
"That shows how well we pushed them right to the end and we had that really good chance with Tom Pope going in right at the death after a good move.
"The supporters seemed pleased with the players efforts at the end of the game and so they should be. Tonight was about trying to win one or two of them over and I think we did that.
"Now it us up to us to try and keep them with us by producing more good performances and looking like a decent team."
