Gudjon Thordarson hopes to bring up to four new players to Gresty Road before the end of the month.
The former Barnsley and Notts County manager has seen 11 players leave the club already this summer and signed only Patrick Ada from Histon.
However, he is content to have a leaner squad next season, telling Alex's official website: "I have been speaking to players and some have been ready to sign but I haven't made my mind up on them.
"My squad will be back on June 29 and I hope we will have three or four new players in by then.
"But nothing has been decided and I have to assess everything from a financial point of view.
"It is very quiet at the moment all over the place. A lot of people are on holiday and there's not a lot going on."
