Crewe Alexandra manager Dario Gradi is closing in on his first signing of the close season after revealing he hopes to complete a deal for an unnamed non-league youngster.
Gradi will become the club's new technical director in the summer but will still have the final word on the acquisition of new players and he has set his sights on a mystery youngster.
"We have made a move for a young player and we hope it can be concluded over the next couple of days or so," he told the club's official website.
"He is a young player from the non-league and there will be a small fee involved, like when we brought (Luke) Varney and (Danny) Woodards here.
"If he can become as a good as Varney or Woodards have been for us then we would be absolutely delighted.
"I don't think he would start the season in the team but he could play if we needed him."
Meanwhile, Gradi has confirmed that Paul Bignot will be handed a free transfer in the summer, but the defender could stay at Gresty Road should he fail to find another club.
