Gradi backing for Jack

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has backed Rodney Jack to find a new club in the Football League after reluctantly deciding to hand the veteran striker a free transfer.

Jack, 34, was told his contract at Gresty Road would not be renewed in the summer, but Gradi has revealed the decision was based more on financial than footballing reasons.

He told the club's official website: "If the budget could have stretched a little bit further then I would have offered him something, but we really need to be looking at giving Shaun Miller even more of a chance.

"I would not hesitate to have signed him and have him as cover for the younger ones.

"I think he has done enough to get himself another league club."
