Crewe defender Stephen Foster has been warned by boss Dario Gradi he faces a battle to get back in the first team after recovering from a knee injury.
The 24-year-old, who was a regular in the Railwaymen's line-up last season before suffering the injury in March, has not featured since undergoing surgery to repair the problem in the summer.
He is now fit and available for selection but Gradi has opted to leave him on the substitutes' bench and is sticking with his current central defensive partnership of Adie Moses and Rich Walker.
He said: "By and large the two centre-halves have played well. Foz is now fit to play and is ready to go, but he knows he will have to earn his place."
