Crewe starlet to stand down
16 Mar 2007 - 07:29:33
Crewe boss Dario Gradi has revealed that teenage prospect Michael O'Connor is unlikely to play again until next season.
The veteran Alex boss is concerned that O'Connor has played too much football this season and is looking to rest the Irish teenager.
The 19-year-old midfielder has been plagued by niggling injuries during the second half of the season and will only play again in the event of an injury-crisis at Gresty Road.
"It seems Michael is still growing and we have been monitoring that very closely because it was meant he has picked up one or two niggling injuries," said Gradi.
"He has been complaining of stiffness in his back and with his groin, so we will only look to play him in a real emergency.
"His body is still settling down and it happens with the younger lads.
"It is his first full season and it has began to take its toll a bit with his fitness."
