Bopp eyes season opener

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Eugen Bopp hopes to be fit for the start of the season after passing a medical and completing his transfer to Crewe Alexandra.

The 23-year-old suffered an ankle injury in February while with Rotherham United and is expected to miss most of Alex's pre-season campaign.

But Bopp told the Stoke Sentinel: "I had a tough time with my injury, but the ankle is looking good now.

"I'm going to do more work over here and hopefully I'll be ready for the first game of the season. I'm looking forward to joining in with the work with the team as soon as possible.

"Once I get the green light from the physios I'll be able to join in with the team. I'm going to do some more fitness work and I'm just looking forward to working with the lads."

The German becomes Alex's sixth signing of a busy summer at Gresty Road.
