Better news for Maynard

Crewe Alexandra striker Nicky Maynard could feature in this weekend's derby clash with Port Vale after his hamstring injury proved to be not as bad as was first feared.

The 21-year-old limped out of the goalless draw with Northampton Town after only 22 minutes with the problem.

It had been thought he would be facing a six-week spell on the sidelines as was the case last season when he suffered a similar injury against Carlisle United.

However, after Maynard reported to training on Monday morning, the club physio is confident that the injury is only minor.
