Bailey major weekend doubt

Crewe Alexandra midfielder James Bailey has been confirmed as a major doubt ahead of Saturday's away clash against Grimsby Town.

He picked up a groin problem during Tuesday's Carling Cup match against Blackpool and was withdrawn at half-time.

The youth team graduate was in sparkling form against the Seasiders and, if he misses the game at the weekend, it would be a big loss.

Speaking to the club's official website, manager Gudjon Thordarson said: "James did very well for us and took himself forward in a positive manner.

"Unfortunately, he looks as though he has injured his hip and groin again and that is a blow for us.

"We will have to assess how he is over the next couple of days but he is certainly doubtful for the weekend."

He missed much of the second half of last season with a similar problem.
